About the role
Pivot Energy is seeking a Senior Director of Grid Integration to lead grid integration and interconnection strategy for our national portfolio of distribution-scale solar PV and solar + storage projects. As a subset of the Engineering team, this position will be responsible for shaping and supporting Pivot’s grid integration strategies. The Senior Director will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with distribution utilities and regulatory groups, representing Pivot at grid integration working groups and conferences, and supporting the development and construction of distribution-scale projects. This position will act as the technical lead for all interconnection designs, studies, and policy engagements.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop Pivot’s national and regional interconnection strategies, in close coordination with the Policy and Development teams, to advance the rapid deployment of distributed generation resources
- Develop and maintain relationships with distribution utilities and regulatory groups
- Represent Pivot at grid integration stakeholder working groups and conferences
- Support the Development, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams to navigate utility processes and construct interconnection facilities
- Identify and maintain technical interconnection requirements across a wide range of utilities nation-wide
- Review interconnection study results and facility extension designs, as needed, to recommend alternative solutions to enable project deployments
- Engage with utilities to enforce compliance with tariff requirements and initiate dispute proceedings, as needed
- Manage engineering consultants to perform power flow studies
- Assist in the review of pre-screen reports to generate interconnection feasibility assessments and cost estimates, as needed
- Maintain a company-wide interconnection technical requirements knowledge database for each utility
- Identify innovative technologies and unique solutions to overcome distributed energy resource interconnection hurdles
- Serve as Pivot’s subject matter expert for interconnection design, distribution equipment, relaying, and SCADA systems
Required Comptencies
- 5+ years of distribution utility and renewable energy grid integration experience
- Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with utilities and other key interconnection stakeholders
- Experience designing or overseeing the design of distributed generation interconnection facilities
- Experience reviewing power system studies and recommending alternative solutions
- In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles, medium voltage design, protective relaying, and SCADA communication systems
- In-depth knowledge of construction codes and standards such as NEC, IBC, and IFC
- Knowledge of distribution interconnection regulations and processes across multiple regions in the U.S.
Preferred Competencies
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university; concentration in power systems preferred
- PE license, or the ability to obtain a license
- 3+ years of people management experience, demonstrating high levels of emotional intelligence
- Experience participating in utility industry working groups and stakeholder seminars
- Experience shaping distribution interconnection policy and regulation
- Working knowledge of PSSE, Aspen, PSCAD, PSLF, or other power system modeling software preferred
