The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Institutional Security Spec Sft. Supv within the Security Unit. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Completes all administrative duties as assigned or required by the Institutional Security Chief, Assistant Administrators or any other person and or agency that may be appointed over this position to accomplish the mission of the facility in a timely and efficient manner. (Including but not limited to; Assists the Institutional Security Chief in the review, updating, development and implementation of operating procedures, protocols and forms. Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
- Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
- Evaluates employees through established evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
- Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
- Communicates on a regular basis with employees and the Institutional Security Chief to keep abreast of the needs of the employees and the facility. Attend and Perform required meetings. (i.e. shift briefing, morning meeting, uniform and grooming inspection, coaching and evaluation meetings with employees, etc...)
- Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources while avoiding overtime and flexing out employees when possible.
- Supervises and directs the institutional security activities during their appointed time of work.
- Plans staffing and duty assignments to ensure shifts and posts are properly covered and participates in covering post assignments as needed.
- Participates in inspecting buildings and grounds and instructs subordinates on security and enforcement measures, policies, and rules pertinent to the security program.
