About the role

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.


Key job responsibilities
We seek a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Battery Test and Validation Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for testing and validating batteries on pack, cell and component levels. Your expertise in battery testing and validation will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our Li-ion battery systems.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and validation procedures for Li-ion cells and packs for electrical, mechanical, environmental, and safety tests.
- Analyze test data, identify potential issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement appropriate solutions
- Design and develop test setups, fixtures, equipment, harnesses, and connectors required for battery testing and validation
- Conduct battery teardown at BOL and EOL for quality control and performance evaluation
- Participate in design reviews, and risk assessments, to contribute to the continuous improvement of battery pack design and performance.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of battery failures, covering electrical, mechanical, and thermal, utilizing appropriate testing and diagnostic techniques.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, systems, reliability, and quality engineers, to gather information, share findings, and develop solutions
- Work with offsite and third-party labs to develop and execute different tests
- Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures, results, and observations in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and guidelines during testing and handling of Li-ion batteries.

Basic Qualifications


- Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years in the development and testing of high-voltage battery systems and components.

Preferred Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of Li-ion cells, working principles, degradation, and failure mechanisms
- Strong knowledge of Li-ion packs, components, voltage structure, and failure mechanisms
- Experience with HALT, HASS, and HAST testing
- Experience with different instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Proficient in data analysis and interpretation using software tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with battery test equipment such as high voltage DC power supply, emulators, and DAQs
- Experience with automating test setups, and scripting skills for battery testing and data analysis
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards (e.g., UN38.3, IEC 62660, ISO 12405) and industry best practices.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
