About the role

The Biobank and Molecular Analysis Program (BMAP) at Nemours Children’s Health is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Technologist  to perform a primary specimen processing  and shipping role in the CAP accredited program. This individual will work under the supervision of senior laboratory staff and performs some assignments independently as discussed and approved by senior lab staff. This individual will conduct routine specimen processing, data entry, and shipping, focusing on projects in support of Hematology/Oncology studies, including blood fractionation, mononuclear cell extraction, and tissue culture. Additional responsibilities include assisting in processing clinical trial specimens, monitoring reagents and supplies, as well as assisting senior laboratory staff in the processing of core facility specimens and specialized instrumentation. Maintains both handwritten and computerized records of work performed. Assists in implementation of new laboratory protocols and processes, and maintenance of lab equipment. Performs basic safety functions in the lab, including testing of equipment.  Performs basic data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Participates at research laboratory meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or related degree required
  • A minimum of 1-3 years working in a biomedical clinical or research laboratory

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for processing and shipping of various biological specimens (blood and body fluid, tissue, bone marrow, etc) and utilizing databases for specimen tracking, following laboratory protocols and SOP’s. 
  2. Assists in maintaining the laboratory environment, reagents, equipment, and function, at a level consistent with CAP guidelines. 
  3. Function independently as assigned and assists in resolving issues in coordination with senior lab staff/PI. 

  4. Carry out simple laboratory tests/cultures and research experiments.

  5. Gather measurements and records data under close supervision.

  6. Support research operations by cleaning and maintaining equipment. Understand and demonstrates safe use and operation of lab equipment.

  7. Understands and is knowledgeable of Nemours safety policies, procedures and performs basic safety functions. 

  8. Engage in and actively follows the five Nemours Associate Core Competencies – Cultural Stewardship; Relationship Management; Commitment to Improvement and Quality; Effective Communication and Champions Change.

  9. Complete annual Nemours mandatory training as assigned.
