About the role

Description

The Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Yale School of Medicine, in concert with VA Connecticut Medical Center, seek a Chief of Service for Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the VA Connecticut Medical Center. The successful candidate will also hold a vice-chair position in both Yale Departments and a ladder faculty position at the Yale School of Medicine. The incumbent is expected to be a visionary leader for the VA service, reporting both to the VA CT Chief of Staff and the Chairs of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and with the experience to participate in, and enhance, the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of the Departments.

The VA Connecticut provides care to 56,000 unique patients. It has just under 100 medical and surgical beds in its West Haven, CT primary site, along with an additional 9 outpatient facilities across the state of Connecticut. VA Connecticut has received outstanding national ranking for clinical care among VA hospitals in the highest (1A) complexity category. It supports the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine residency program at Yale as well as pathology subspecialty fellowships and a Pathologist Assistant training program. VA Connecticut is also the home to three national VA reference laboratories: Virology, Mycobacteriology, and Molecular Diagnostics / Pharmacogenetics. It is one of the most active VA medical centers nationally in research, with approximately 500 active research projects, funded with approximately $45 million in grants, and run by 80 Yale principal investigators.

Qualifications

Candidates should be physicians, preferably physician-scholars or physician-scientists, who are Board certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with a minimum of seven years of experience, preferably with leadership experience.  They must qualify for appointment as either Associate or Full Professor at the Yale School of Medicine. Experience in the VA health system is preferred but not required. Rank is dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications.
