What You'll Do:

As a Global Classification Manager, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, responsible for maintaining our right to operate by leading the tariff classification team in determining, maintaining, and using consistent and compliant tariff classifications globally, engaging in tariff-related trade and manufacturing projects and activities that maintain or improve our competitive advantage. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life. This role works closely with internal and external parties including regional trade compliance, business leadership, Information Technology, internal and external auditors, and global customs authorities.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Ensure Global alignment of export and import tariff classification through strong collaboration with regional experts in other regions.
  • Initiate self-audits and act as lead for external audits related to tariff classification including identifying and implementing corrective action.
  • Train and support the tariff classification team in classification determination of raw materials, intermediates, complex research samples, and non-chemical items. 
  • Ensure any changes to manufacturing or purchasing are in line with the designated tariff codes by participating in the raw material review process.
  • Assign chemistry-based free trade agreement rules in low-complexity situations.
  • Work with internal and external legal department to draft and submit customs ruling requests as needed.
  • Management of classification data in SAP GTS.
  • Track and report metrics and KPIs related to service levels to leadership.
  • Lead and facilitate the management of challenges regarding tariff classification to ensure full compliance while supporting business growth.
  • Enable Lubrizol’s competitive advantage through tariff engineering, continuous improvement, and strong governance.

 

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Trade Compliance, Tariff Classification, or related field.
  • Able to analyze required information for audits and assess compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to identify issues and root cause.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in assigning chemical tariff classifications of all complexities accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of tariff classification assignments and associated data requirements, attention to detail with a holistic mindset and strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of duty programs, manufacturing and procurement processes, and tariff engineering.
  • Ability to effectively manage relationships with external and internal stakeholders and manage a team of 3-5 employees including timely consultation, collaboration, and change management.
  • Ability to maintain a customer focus while managing customer questions and challenges.
  • Ability to prioritize problem solving and corrective actions and has a demonstrated continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to drive team success by contributing to overall supply chain objectives and metrics.

  • Certified Classification Specialist (CCLS)
