Mozilla’s Global Advocacy program focuses on holding companies accountable for building trustworthy AI in line with organizational ‘theory of change’. To do this, we utilize grassroots pressure, credible research and influential media coverage to improve consumer tech products and tech policy in line with our goals. We are seeking an Africa-based campaigner to lead effective advocacy campaigns that use this strategic approach to advance our goals in the East and Southern regions. You will develop and direct these campaigns in close collaboration across the Global Advocacy team.

This role reports to the Director, Campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing impactful grassroots advocacy campaigns across East and Southern Africa in line with Mozilla’s mission and theory of change.
  • Mobilising existing and new Mozilla supporters in the region to take action to build and promote a healthier internet and trustworthy AI.
  • Building relationships and designing campaigns with external and internal partners to run effective campaigns that respond to regional trends, developments and opportunities.
  • Working with Mozilla researchers, designers, and developers to create compelling, accurate and timely content related to our campaigns.
  • Working with the Director of Digital Engagement to implement a mobilisation strategy around our email channels.
  • Working with teams across Mozilla to advance the pan-Mozilla policy strategy.
  • Building collaborative relationships within Mozilla and across the Foundation and Corporation.

Your Professional Profile:

Required:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience working in the non-profit sector with an understanding of effective advocacy across East and Southern Africa.
  • Experience in crafting and implementing grassroots advocacy campaigns designed to change corporate practice and/or public policies.
  • Experience in project management, working with multiple partners with different skills.
  • Genuine interest in topics and alignment with Mozilla’s Mission and Manifesto, including keeping the internet open and free and trustworthy AI.
  • Strong oral, written, and social analytical communications skills in English.
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis on a range of issues, and effectively articulate how these relate to policies, initiatives and procedures to non-expert audiences.
  • Strong and proven ability to lead multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team.
  • Strong and proven understanding of how diversity and inclusion intersects with advocacy work.
  • Ability to effectively handle workload and complete projects in a timely fashion.

Preferred:

  • Experience with advocacy on tech or consumer issues.
  • Experience with fundraising, including digital fundraising where relevant.
  • Skills in data metrics and analytics, related to supporter growth and engagement.
  • Strong written, oral and social communication skills in other languages than English.
  • Experience in facilitating or leading projects as part of a remote, distributed team.

Salary and Benefits Information:

The Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair and equitable compensation for our staff. We aim to pay a competitive and market-based salary based on the responsibilities and requirements of the role. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.

The starting salary ranges for this role are listed below:

  • Kenya: [ksh11,628,030 - ksh13,060,303] [target salary offer- ksh 11,985,261]
  • South Africa: [R1,565,041- R1,757,814] [target salary offer- R1,613,122]
  • Zimbabwe: [$28,297,650-$31,762,974] [target salary offer - $29,148,446]
