Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a detail-oriented individual with accounting experience to serve as an Accountant Supervisor. This position serves as a working supervisor maintaining complex ledgers while assisting with and reviewing the deposit entries into the SAP accounting system. This position also facilitates the Department of Corrections, Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Prisoner Review Board’s accounts receivable and receipt inquiries.  We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Processes invoices received specific to assigned Shared Services divisions and funds.
  • Provides accounting expertise.
  • Serves as a liaison between the accounts payable section and designated divisions.
  • Compiles data and prepares reports at auditors request.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience applying accounting principles to the processing of invoices in an accounts payable area
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience serving as a supervisor over professional staff.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience interpreting finance laws and applying them appropriately to the vouchering process.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience implementing processes and procedures to comply with corrective measures taken to maintain effective accounting practices.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience reviewing, auditing and approving travel vouchers.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the State of Illinois travel regulations.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer programs.
  • Prefers the ability to work in a busy office environment.
