Position Summary:

The Compliance Specialist will support Quapaw Historic Preservation Program (QHPP) goals. The incumbent will assist in carrying out Quapaw Nation’s responsibilities under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), such as reviewing and researching projects in accordance with Section 106 of NHPA and in compliance with 36 CFR 800. The incumbent will assist with reviewing and researching projects for impacts to historic properties, as well as logging departmental mail, and preparing outgoing correspondence.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with Section 106 Responsibilities:
    • Assist with maintaining the department’s digital database, Laserfiche.  
    • Review and research project information for impacts to historic properties in accordance with 36 CFR 800 and established departmental practice.
    • Prepare Section 106 correspondence.
  • Assist with the historical research for National Historic Register properties that are selected for nomination by the THPO.
  • Will assist the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer with consultation meetings, site visits, and monitoring. This will include travel to meet with government agencies, periodic visits to historic sites which may be in remote areas and monitoring of federal projects which may require travel and special training and expertise. This will also include periodic and regular attendance of virtual meetings on behalf of the department.
  • Will assist with departmental telecommunications including receiving incoming calls for the department and initiating calls related to Section 106 reviews and departmental projects. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

Non-essential Job Functions:

  • May assist with the coordination of pertinent educational programs and meetings for the department.
  • May assist the THPO in the preparation and/or execution of research projects beyond Section 106 research as directed.
  • May participate in the coordination of cultural/traditional events for the department.
