Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! The COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) is looking for a junior level Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) Mechanic. The junior mechanic will supports shipboard maintenance by performing HVAC diagnostics and repairs, conducting equipment assessments, and assisting with safety checks and crew training. This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct material condition assessments, troubleshooting and repairs on various equipment throughout the ship.  
  • Conduct shipboard surveillances (Quality and Safety).
  • Train Ships Force on proper assessment techniques.
  • Train Ships Force on using technical documentation such as drawings and technical manuals.
  • Validate equipment installed on CVNs to verify APL accuracy.
  • May perform duties as a general mechanic.

What You Must Have

  • High School education and 1 year of related experience, or Trade School or equivalent. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have a current EPA 608 Universal License.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems maintaining compliance with safety.
  • Maintaining detailed logs, repair documentation, and safety checklists.
  • Experience adhering to OSHA standards.
  • Conducting routine safety surveillances and risk assessments.
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance, and base/ship access.

Bonus Points For

  • A current, active DoD Security clearance.
  • Supporting health and safety programs.
  • Leading or assisting with implementing corrective actions to minimize workplace accidents.
  • Experience responding to emergency repair calls.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required
