Site reliability engineering (SRE) is a set of principles and practices that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to IT infrastructure and operations. The main objectives are to create highly reliable and scalable software systems and automate operational processes. SREs focus on availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response and capacity planning of their services.

As an SRE Manager you will lead a team of people who are responsible for the availability of a number of Discover’s most critical applications. The team is responsible for:

· Building resiliency into our critical websites and mobile app by working with developers to ensure SRE principles are adopted and executed

· Setting the strategy and working with developers and other SREs to build out end to end observability for our apps

· Developing a DR plan and executing it routinely

· Defining a chaos strategy and partnering with the SRE run team to execute

· Enhancing a number of existing capacity management and performance management tools/processes to adapt to our company’s cloud strategy

· Automating operational processes for the SRE run team and other SREs

Responsibilities:

· Stand up a team of experienced SREs

· Partner with your peers in App Development to ensure that SRE principles are adopted

· Be a leader in the SRE community of practice and evolve the SRE practice at DFS

· Champion a culture of learning, collaborating, and continuous improvement

· Mentor and develop junior resources and empower and unblock senior ones

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related

· 6 + years of experience in Banking/Financial Services and or equivalent technology Industry, or related experience

· In Lieu of Education, 8 + years of experience in Banking/Financial Services and or equivalent technology Industry, or related experience

Preferred Skills

· 5+ years of SRE experience in a highly customer-focused environment

· Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate teams

· Ability to drive change, and motivate engineers to develop simple solutions for complex operational challenges

· Experience collaborating and partnering effectively with several teams

· Experience leading discussions with senior leadership, and ability to tailor the level of technical detail to suit your audience

· Expertise in 24x7 site monitoring and ability to own uptime & performance SLA’s for large scale distributed systems

· Expertise in one or more general purpose programming languages: Python, Go, shell scripting (Unix/Linux), Java

· Expertise in container technology (openshift, Kubernetes), hybred cloud and AWS.

· Expertise in automation tools experience such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible.

· Experience in developing monitoring tools and log analysis tools to manage operations

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $104,000.00 to $175,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
