About the role

Role/Job Summary: 

At least 10+ years of on-the-job experience in similar role of Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering of Marine Vessels & Offshore Drilling rigs. 
The Sr Engineer - Electrical designs and performs technical design reviews of drilling and marine power and process control systems to conform to safety, performance specification, and compliance of class requirements.
The Sr Engineer - Electrical works with Technical Support Team and Operations to provide design, installation, and operation requirements and guidance, prepares vendor equipment specifications and evaluates the quality of equipment being supplied to Customer.
The Sr Engineer - Electrical provides engineering and technical support for Customer’s Rig /fleet operations, modification projects and shipyard refurbishment projects. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Designs and models power distribution systems, inclusive of protection system 
•    Designs engine generator controls for diesel power generation plant, including active and reactive power load sharing, power limit scheme, and instrumentation 
•    Designs and models drilling and marine process control systems, inclusive of network architecture, defining performance criteria, and developing functional philosophy to form specification 
•    Performs electrical design reviews of major systems (power, control, monitoring, and communication) and equipment, considering technical boilerplate validation attributes 
•    Designs of marine systems and monitoring, including F&G, ESD, internal communication (PBX, PAGA, talkback), marine radio communication, CCTV, tank gauging, positioning system (jacking, mooring, dynamic positioning), pin-load monitoring/rack phase differential 
•    Prepares electrical equipment specifications, qualifying requirements of performance specification, certification, and acceptance criteria 
•    Ensures design compliance with governance bodies (Class, IMO, Flag State, local agency), industry best practice (API and IADC), standard agency (IEEE, IEC, or UL), and other applicable electrical codes and standards 
•    Develops test procedures for rig electrical power and control (drilling and marine systems) modifications, with rig- and system-specific configuration 
•    Attends FAT on major electrical system equipment and prepare PAIR report 
•    Performs power system analyses (e.g. load analysis, short circuit, relay coordination, load flow, harmonic, transient, arc flash) 
•    Performs system analysis (e.g. power, network redundancy, FMEA/FMECA, risk assessment)
•    Performs marketing gap assessment for electrical systems
•    Supports incident investigations and recovery.
•    Develops maintenance alert and PM routines as required
•    Develops project electrical work pack
•    Performs other duties as may be assigned


Minimum requirements for this position:

•    Should have system design experience with power generation control system, power distribution and protection systems, marine and safety systems, and power drive systems on offshore drilling rigs (e.g. drilling, dynamic positioning, navigation, GMDSS and other applications)
•    Should have working knowledge and fluency with drilling, BOP, ESD, and rig position control systems (jacking, mooring, thruster controls, dynamic positioning) with respect to design, operating, and maintenance principles
•    Should have knowledge of PLC logic diagrams (Ladder, FBD, Structure text etc.), ability to review PLC logics and Instructions etc. and able to suggest modifications / troubleshoot as required for improving operational efficiency and safety on Rigs
•    Should have Knowledge of signal protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, RS232, RS485, Profibus DP, Industrial Ethernet, Fiber Optic etc. 
•    Should have knowledge of VFD selection, configuration, parametrization, and commissioning procedures
•    Should have knowledge of Field devices selection and wiring of field devices such as Pressure switches and pressure sensors, flowmeters, level sensors, temperature sensors, Proximity switches, PID controllers, Pneumatic & hydraulic actuators, remote actuated valves etc.
•    Should have knowledge of IP ratings, Zone Classifications, Hazardous Area Plans on Drilling Rigs as per API 505 and Selection of Explosion proof Equipment as per application
•    Proficiency with AutoCAD, SKM Powertools or ETAP, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project software suites
•    Ability to independently gather and analyse / synthesize data, confirming accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process
•    Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, excellent team working and organizational skills
•    Must have excellent conflict resolution skills and be able to diploma
