This is entry-level work performing routine tasks under direct supervision with well-defined procedures with few changes required. The OPS Family Support Worker provides breastfeeding education and support to Special Supplemental Nutrition Programs for Women, infants, and Children (WIC) client in various locations throughout the county and provides services in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the state WIC Program and regulations as stated in DHM 150-24. Assignment of duty station, hours and days worked may vary as needed. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Nutritionist in the assigned area in collaboration with the Breastfeeding Coordinator.

Educate WIC pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum mothers and family members on breastfeeding-related issues in assigned sites, by telephone, at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC agency. Provide basic breastfeeding information and support to WIC mothers to help them successfully establish breastfeeding, overcome common barriers to breastfeeding, and prevent and handle common breastfeeding problems or concerns. Conduct breastfeeding classes and facilitate support group. Maintain the breastfeeding warmline after hours; triage, give appointments and/or counsel as appropriate.

Document breastfeeding contacts in the FL-Wise system in accordance with department policy. Documentation is accurate, clear, and legible due to all contacts made with WIC clients.

Manage caseload od assigned WIC clients and contact clients according to established procedures, maintaining client confidentiality. Coordinate services for clients and makes referrals to appropriate agencies as needed.

Assist the local WIC agency outreach, promoting breastfeeding through special projects and duties as assigned. Understand WIC eligibility criteria and programmatic requirements to answer basic questions about WIC and make appropriate referrals.

Attend mandatory and scheduled trainings.  Adhere to FDOH in Duval County and Division of Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention (NCDP) policies and procedures pertaining to client confidentially, and data security.  Accurate and timely submission of Employee Activity Record (EARs), time records, travel logs, monthly report of activities and other reports are submitted to the NCDP Administrative Office.  Answer telephones, file and perform travel in relation to above duties and for professional development.  A valid unrestricted Florida Driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.  Participate in the FDOH in Duval County – Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention Disaster Plan as required.  Perform other related duties
