1st Grade Teacher

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate 1st Grade Teacher to join our team at GEO Academies 21st Century Charter School in Gary. As a 1st Grade Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment for our young students. You will be responsible for teaching a variety of subjects, including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum and state standards
• Create a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes student learning and growth
• Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a cohesive and effective learning community
• Communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress and any concerns
• Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching
• Prepare students for strong academic achievement and passing of all required assessments
• Communicate regularly with parents
• Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
• Work with the Special Education teachers and administration to serve special needs students in the classroom
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible
• Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff

Requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
• Valid Indiana Professional Educator or Initial Practitioner License (substitute license not accepted)
• Experience teaching 1st grade or similar age group
• Strong knowledge of 1st grade curriculum and state standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment for young students
