SmartThings is searching for an experienced IT professional who can own our IT networking infrastructure, manage IT equipment, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and drive improvements in policies and processes. As a Senior Systems Administrator, you are the go-to person for SmartThings’ computer hardware and software needs, providing front-line user support for all of SmartThings' internal tools and technologies. You’ll troubleshoot, respond to inquiries, and find solutions to technical challenges. You will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. And you will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.
Key Responsibilities
This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Mountain View, CA.In this role, your primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Procure and track IT hardware, software licenses, and warranties, overseeing installation and setup of infrastructure in both office and remote work environments.
- Administer, configure, and maintain company laptops, desktops, and mobile devices across Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
- Deploy, configure, and update software across the organizations using endpoint management tools (e.g. Meraki)
- Support collaboration platforms such as Google Workspace, Confluence, Slack, Zoom, and other productivity tools.
- Own Atlassian (Jira, Confluence) administration and rolling audits for a large number of SmartThings projects with international stakeholders.
- Manage office network equipment and remote network access (routers, switches, access points, VPN) and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Respond to and resolve help desk tickets for employees, providing timely assistance for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Design, develop, and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline operational workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve system efficiency and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, implement solutions using languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript, and ensure proper documentation and version control. Monitor and optimize existing scripts for performance, scalability, and error handling, while adhering to coding best practices and security guidelines.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, and vendors to ensure access to key networks, tools, and infrastructure, including Samsung Research America (SRA) IT, with the goal of identifying opportunities for integration or independent development.
- Coordinate user access with the People Team to ensure timely provisioning during employee onboarding, modification during employment, and deprovisioning during offboarding of user accounts and permissions across Identity Providers, enterprise applications, and collaboration tools.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve IT policies and infrastructure to ensure secure, efficient operations across all company locations.
- Support a highly mobile workforce with a willingness and desire to test and explore new technologies and paths to efficiency and ability to scale quickly.
- Manage end-to-end vendor lifecycle, including identifying vendors based on business requirements, procurement, onboarding, contract review, and ongoing relationship management.
- Assist with audits, such as ISO27001.
