Position Title: CalFresh Outreach Specialist

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Non-Exempt

Work Setting: Hybrid

Reports To: CalFresh Outreach Coordinator

Pay Range: $20.00/hour

Position Overview: 

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Nutrition team as the CalFresh Outreach Specialist.  This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the development and implementation of the CalFresh Enrollment Assistance program at Jewish Family Service and to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The CalFresh Outreach Specialist plays an integral role on the Nutrition team and supports the entire agency by assisting eligible clients with the CalFresh application, dispels myths about CalFresh, and helps eliminate barriers to accessing the program.  This position reports directly to the CalFresh Outreach Coordinator works closely with the rest of the Nutrition and Access teams.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct CalFresh Outreach, providing pre-screening for eligibility, assistance with application completion, and client case management at/for:
  • Food Pantry community food distributions
  • Corner Market
  • Clients of Jewish Family Service referred by other programs
  • Resource fairs
  • Partner organizations
• Attend CalFresh Task Force meetings and other trainings as needed
• Assist with program outcome measurement and funder reporting
• Other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

• Responsible, well organized
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Comfort in using a computerized client management system
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Able to work with a wide range of individuals from a diverse socio-economic backgrounds and origins

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish, or English and another non-English language
• Previous experience with the CalFresh program
