The team you’ll be joining
Vivint is a fully integrated smart home, security, and energy company that offers a wide range of products designed to provide customers with comfort and peace of mind. One of the core teams responsible for delivering this customer experience is our Ecosystem Team.
The Ecosystem Team focuses on realizing the potential of the home by integrating all devices to create deep and robust experiences. This team currently covers home automation, day 2 growth, app information architecture, locks, garage doors, lighting, and much more.
This position will specifically support the Smart Lighting Squad and the App Information Architecture Group. These squads currently support over 2 million households and aim to reach over 8 million within the coming few years. Your areas of ownership will include:
- Collaborating on lighting strategy with your product squad (Product squads consist of members from Product, Engineering, Program, Industrial Design, and User Experience Design)
- Unique experiences & Automation for lighting outside of core lighting controls experience
- Conducting up-front discovery. You’ll be answering questions like... How might we help people feel more comfortable in their homes? How might we provide just the right light, at just the right time, in just the right place, for just the right person?
- Helping define current and future roadmaps for smart lighting
- Lighting settings, both in the app and on a hub display
- Aiding additional teams with high-priority projects, such as App Information Architecture
Top Responsibilities
Participating in discovery to help identify which problems to solve. A successful senior designer will uncover where we can provide the most value to our customers by quantifying and making cases for which problems if solved, would provide the user and the business with the most value.
Going wide on ideation and narrowing to validated solutions via testing, and iteration. After identifying which problems to solve, a successful senior designer will ideate, validate, and iterate quickly... narrowing on highly effective and proven solutions via robust testing.
Owning the design of end-to-end product experiences on the Vivint Smart Hub and Display. As a senior designer, you will be the point to person for the products you are responsible for. You’ll need to know the history and the direction of the product experiences and be able to confidently talk to any question others may have. In collaboration with your PM and Engineering lead, you’ll shape the direction of your product, both near term and far into the future.
Collaborating and communicating with your product development team. A senior designer collaborates and communicates effectively with team members in engineering, product, design, and QA to define, design, build, test, deploy, and maintain products that balance user value, business value, and technical feasibility.
Advocating for the user by using data, industry best practices, and your own expertise to enhance the Hub and Display experience. As a senior designer, you will ground your insights and concepts with real world data and experience to provide user value that is competitive within the product landscape.
