Job Purpose

The Head of Asset Data will be part of the Chief Data Office function and will report into our Chief Data Officer. It is a critical role to deliver on National Grid’s vision, "To be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future". They will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of data and analytics leaders to develop and manage data products along with digital and data best practises across National Grid’s Asset Management and Maintenance functions. The execution will be carried out through the Asset Data Centre of Excellence (CoE), of which this role will lead.

 

The CoE will perform a combination of advisory and delivery activities to ultimately support the Asset Management functions across National Grid in increasing asset availability, reducing risk and optimising asset lifecycle costs. This will be achieved with the application of digital and data best practices and strong domain expertise in Asset Management. The role will be required to form strong relationships with key business stakeholders in the various Asset Management functions and work hand in hand with these stakeholders in the execution of the Asset CoE’s scope.

 


This role presents an opportunity for someone with a passion for transforming enterprise-wide asset management and maintenance practises through innovative digital and data technologies.

Key Accountabilities

•    Lead the Asset Data Centre of Excellence (CoE) in its ambition to transform and support the future of Asset Management across National Grid
•    Define and manage the scope of the Asset Data CoE;
     o    Aligned to the Asset Management strategy and key objectives.
     o    Informed by global and industry asset management and data standards.
•    Develop and utilise the as-is systems landscape across the Nation Grid Asset Management functions to inform a future state architecture and innovation roadmap.
•    Establish a roadmap and strategy in support of a Global view of critical Asset Data (Digital Twin) across National Grid
•    Establish the core Digital and Data Products supporting the Asset Management capability model and future ways of work.
•    Identify, prioritise, and initiate targeted digital and data innovation pilots to enhance asset management practises.
•    Scale successful innovation pilots across the business
•    Develop value and/or performance frameworks for key initiatives or programs run out of the CoE (prioritisation, business case development, value measurement and tracking)
•    Advise on key systems and technology deployments across National Grid to embed digital and data best practises and ensure innovation and scale.
•    Collaborate closely with the National Grid Asset Management, IT and digital/ data teams to ensure seamless integration of the data-driven solutions into existing processes.
•    Effectively communicate the value of data-driven initiatives to senior management and other stakeholders, ensuring buy-in and support
•    Establish an extensible data access strategy for the integration and consumption of key Asset data.
•    Establish a strategy and tooling for enterprise scale IT/OT data contextualisation.
•    Define and deliver against best practises for data handling and architectures (ingestion, storage, consumption) supporting identified, value-based digital initiatives in the Asset Management portfolio, covering:
     o    Asset Master Data (maintenance plans, asset master records, etc.)
     o    Transactional data (maintenance, order, failure history, etc.)
     o    Time-series data (near real-time, historic operational and condition based) 
     o    Insights (e.g. analytics output)
•    Establish robust data governance practices to ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy, enabling informed decision-making.
•    Understand and apply, as applicable, regulatory requirements pertaining to the Asset Data scope.
•    Establish the Data Profession and associated key roles across Asset Management, in support of the CoE’s scope and enterprise-wide transformation.
•    Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in data analytics, IIoT, and digital solutions to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
•    Provide thought leadership within and external to National Grid, in furthering asset management principles through the emerging digital and data technologies.
