Director, Red Hat Research

Red Hat is seeking a new leader for Red Hat Research, ideally based in the Boston metro area, and reporting to the Vice President, Office of the CTO. This is a Director-level role. The ideal candidate will have a broad technology, management and engineering leadership background, combined with a proven track record of collaborative work with academic institutions and other research organizations.

What you will do

Organizationally, Red Hat Research is responsible for:

• Leveraging our Boston University Collaboratory partnership to establish the Red Hat platform as the worldwide standard for academic research and innovation

• Supporting our product teams in experimenting and gathering user feedback in these deployments 

• Driving strategic university partnerships and collaborating with them on shared research areas

• Promoting successful outcomes and creating an intern pipeline from those universities into Red Hat

What you will bring

• Experience leading a research organization with several layers of management and multiple research and platform engineering teams

• Experience managing partnerships and grants with universities and academic institutions 

• Experience defining technology strategy 

• Experience partnering with product management and product engineering teams

• Experience being a spokesperson with analysts and press

• 10+ years of experience working in the software industry preferably on open source software

• Experience managing teams that host infrastructure for research

• Excellent writing and verbal communications skills targeting both engineering and executive themes from engineering to executive

• Excellent collaboration and people skills

The salary range for this position is $221,260 - $376,120. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
