Overview
Plans, integrates, controls and evaluates human, material and fiscal resources required to provide Pharmacy services inpatient and outpatient programs. Provides leadership in establishing standards, goals, and direction. Facilitates, coordinates, and manages staff, material, and financial resources to achieve pharmaceutical, distribution and consultative services which support nursing and medical management of patient care. Ensures implementation of hospital and pharmacy standards and employee competencies.Talent Pool: Allied Health
Responsibilities
Ensures an effective management of human resources. Consistently assesses staffing requirements and training needs for provision of all pharmacy services. Anticipates and adjusts staffing to meet various levels of patient care needs. Effectively recruits, trains, schedules, and delegates work assignments. Clearly defines staff responsibilities to maintain high quality customer services. Defines standards for competency and documents at least annually. Coaches pharmacists, technicians, and support staff in the performance of pharmacy services in assigned pharmacy areas. Proactively involves staff in problem solving. Consistently serves as the leader within department in developing, interpreting, and implementing human resource policies. Adjusts staffing levels as needed (both up and down) to meet various levels of patient care and customer needs. Honestly, timely, and compassionately counsels employees whose performance does not meet expectations. Completes thorough and comprehensive performance summaries on time. --------------------------------------------------Manages financial resources. Consistently performs monthly analysis of cost variances, identifies and communicates causes, and implements action plans to resolve in a timely, accurate manner. Proactively develops creative strategies to minimize cost increases. Works collaboratively with customers, committees, and senior leadership to manage systemwide expenses (i.e., salary, pharmaceutical, medical supply). Total operating costs are maintained within budget.--------------------------------------------------Manages pharmacy programs. Consistently assesses Pharmacy services needs and workload issues, advising leadership group as needed. Consistently measures department performance. Actively participates and leads interdepartmental and intradepartmental performance improvement teams. Effectively leads the department operational and capital planning activities. Identifies and develops departmental goals and objectives utilizing corporate goals and trend data with customer and staff input. Develops and maintains an ongoing department organizational structure to meet program goals. --------------------------------------------------Maintains regulatory compliance. Effectively leads and coordinates department activities to ensure facility compliance with regulatory agencies (TJC, DHRS, etc) through various intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities and committees. Effectively represents the pharmacy department on interdepartmental collaborative teams and committees to plan for and implement performance improvement activities that support regulatory agency expectations. Helps foster and develop collaborative activities across health system pharmacies that plan and implement regulatory compliance activities.--------------------------------------------------Serves as an educator and role model for staff, coordinators, residents, and students. Anticipates and provides effective training or ensures needs are addressed appropriately to remain current on professional growth and clinical content. Consistently follows up to ensure learning has occurred and takes appropriate action. Willingly assists in recognizing training needs and development of training content.--------------------------------------------------Qualifications
EDUCATION:Bachelors, Pharmacy, BS in Pharmacy required, orDoctorate, Pharmacy, PharmD requiredMasters, Pharmacy, Business, Pharmacy or other health discipline - preferred EXPERIENCE:Required: Three years? progressive leadership experience in hospital pharmacyPreferred: Prior management experience LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIREDBLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderRequired: Current active license to practice pharmacy in North Carolina, or eligible to obtain North Carolina pharmacy license within four (4) months of date of hire.PREFERREDApply for this role
