The Pharmacy Technician II supports pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across various Carilion Clinic settings. This role involves obtaining accurate medication histories from patients in the fast-paced Emergency Department, entering and updating data into the computer system, using automated medication dispensing equipment, and assisting and supporting pharmacists in the pharmaceutical care of our patients.

The Pharmacy Technician
Review and update the patient's medication records for pharmacist review and physician ordering.
Maintains accurate documentation.
Uses Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment to stock medications in the Emergency Department, maintain accurate inventory levels, and assist nursing in the removal and reconciliation of medication discrepancies.
Maintains pharmacy records for regulatory compliance.
Supports medication safety committees and reporting systems.
Support medication access and affordability through patient advocacy, financial coordination, and assistance program facilitation.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient service.
Duties listed above represent a general scope of responsibilities. Actual tasks may vary depending on the work site (e.g., Retail Pharmacy, Pharmacy Supply, or Carilion Medical Center).
We offer a structured pharmacy technician career ladder that recognizes experience and supports long‑term career growth. Tier assignment will be determined at the time of hire based on the candidate’s experience as a pharmacy technician and experience in relevant practice setting.
What We Require:
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy. Must be customer service oriented. Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard. Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.

Compensation Range:
$18.70 - $26.18Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
