Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Outpatient, Addiction/General

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN is also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. Function independently as a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the provision of care for the high demand of mental health disorders that include: 

  • Anxiety 

  • Depression 

  • ADHD 

  • OCD 

  • Bipolar Disorder 

  • Mood Disorders 

  • PTSD 

  • And other Behavioral Health Diagnoses 

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide high quality, individualized mental health services. 

  • Functions independently to interview patients and obtain full medical history. 

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations with medication management and brief psychotherapy. 

  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies. 

  • Evaluate and implement treatment for psychiatric disorders. 

  • Prescribe medications within scope of practice (Active DEA- Schedules II-V required). 

  • Consult with other health care professionals regarding patient care as needed. 

  • Consult with and/or referral to collaborative physicians. 

  • Refer to appropriate specialist as needed. 

  • Complete clinical forms (including patient care letters, workers comp, FMLA, etc.) 

  • Closing of patient encounters within the UMMG Records Completion Guidelines. 

  • Respond to patient in-basket messages within the UHEALTH In-Basket Management Policy 

  • Additional clinical responsibilities as directed by senior clinical staff (which may include coverage of other providers in the department). 

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.  

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients. 

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. 

  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
