Job Description
Summary
The Database Administrator IV supports database administrative activities including but not limited to database patching, capacity and performance management. This position also is responsible for backup and recovery configuration and execution, modeling and development support..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Demonstrated experience writing complex stored procedures and queries
- Proven experience troubleshooting and solving complex databases schemas/warehouses.
- Understanding and experience of Software Development Life Cycle
- Experience in database development, administration, and management for PostgreSQL and Oracle
- Proven experience with integration from Oracle to Postgres and/or vice-versa
- Understanding of existing data models and ability to design new data models
- Administration and tuning of database, and data models for performance
- Ability to assess database for best practices and performance
- Ability to build security and backup strategies for database
- Ensuring database is performing at optimal levels
- Collaborating with engineering teams and clients on ensuring smooth operations of database
- Performs deployments in production and non-production environments
- Responsible for evaluating patching requests, communicating constraints, risks, impact, issues and timelines for deployment
- Collaborates with engineering teams and clients on ensuring optimal operations of database
- Streamlines cloning or similar activities to build/refresh non-production environments
- Supports and enforces change management SOP, including maintenance across multiple environments
- Supports IT security Audit Reporting
- Provides technical leadership and advice for the company’s use of DB and related technologies. Provide leadership and guidance on large, complex and cross functional projects and tasks
- Provides database back-up, archiving, monitoring, data analysis and troubleshoots data issues
- Assists with related task planning, training and technical direction of other Applications Administrators, DBAs or IT software engineers and developers
- Develops documentation for the assessment and automation of repeatable processes
- Assists in maintaining plans for disaster recovery and failover capabilities and testing
- Maintains security according to company guidelines and works closely with the IT Security team to develop additional robust solutions
- Provides peer reviews for work produced by other Application DBA’s and/or software engineers
- Trains other IT Application DBAs within the Information Technology department and acts as a mentor to less experienced staff
- Provides On-Call support after hours and on weekends (on a rotational basis) per the department’s On-Call agreement to meet SLA’s and metrics
