Job Summary

The Database Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the company’s database systems to ensure data integrity, high availability, performance, and security. This role involves managing database environments, performing backups and recoveries, tuning queries, and collaborating with development and operations teams to support data-driven business decisions and applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Administration:  Administer and maintain databases across on-prem and Azure environments, implement and optimize SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms, and automate daily tasks using T-SQL and similar administrative tools.
  • Database Migration:  Develop and apply migration strategies between Azure and on-prem systems to maintain data platform operations.
  • Database Design and Implementation:  Design, deploy, and manage relational and non-relational databases, including schema development, indexing, and partitioning to support enterprise applications.
  • Database Maintenance:  Perform routine backups, restores, patching, and upgrades of database software to maintain optimal performance and compliance with change management procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Support:  Diagnose and resolve database issues, such as performance bottlenecks, errors, or failures, providing Tier 2/3 support for data-related incidents.
  • Security and Compliance:  Implement and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, auditing, and adherence to regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS) to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Performance Monitoring:  Monitor database health using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, or Prometheus, identifying and optimizing slow queries or resource usage.
  • Collaboration:  Work with developers, analysts, and IT teams to integrate databases with applications, support ETL processes, and enable cloud-based data solutions.
  • Documentation:  Create and maintain detailed database documentation, including ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and recovery procedures.
