Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of this position is to lead the operational and logistical planning and execution of the Valero Texas Open – an annual PGA TOUR event – in addition to providing guidance, oversight and support of operational execution at other Wasserman Events properties, including those out-of-market. Based in San Antonio, Texas, this position will also help coordinate sponsor fulfillment and activations while managing an operations team and a network of key vendor relationships.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Executive Director and various senior leaders within the Wasserman Events & Consulting team, management and oversight of work-functions including, but not limited to:

  • Oversee Operations Manager, Coordinator and other Operations staff, delegating responsibilities and helping to develop their skills by providing direction, guidance, support and feedback, as needed.
  • Serve as a leader and key resource related to Operations and Operations Staff at all other tournaments/projects within the Wasserman Events portfolio.
  • Establish annual operational budgets, collaborate with finance team to provide regular forecasting, and manage expenditures to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
  • Manage all vendor relationships, from the RFP/contract negotiation process through final billing. Maintain strong communication with vendors, providing supervision and support, while documenting completed work, to ensure on-time and accurate delivery of all products, services and physical structures.
  • Supervise construction and teardown of the golf course build, working with Club management, Golf Course Superintendent, and property owners to mitigate property damage and ensure expectations are being met.
  • Strong understanding and familiarity of all vendor contracts with the ability to provide venue/structure price estimates to Corporate Partnerships team, Client Services team and sponsors, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain tournament site plan (including use of SketchUp, AutoCAD, floor planning tools, etc.) with corresponding build schedule; providing regular updates to all key stakeholders.
  • Conceptualize new areas of opportunity for revenue generation; collaborate with vendors to develop and execute approved ideas while maintaining margin objectives.
  • Work closely with title sponsor on their hospitality venue design/layout/budgeting along with on-site activation initiatives in support of their objectives.
  • Responsible for all permitting, government applications & paperwork.
  • Maintain relationships with public safety organizations and prepare safety plans and staffing schedules.
  • Oversee year-round office technology (IT) and manage on-course temporary technology, such as Wi-Fi infrastructure, ensuring all needs are met for various constituencies.
  • Collaboration with Volunteer Services Manager on the management/oversight of the volunteer Tournament Leadership Council and serve a resource for volunteer committees, providing assistance, resources and guidance, as needed.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for PGA TOUR on all operational aspects of events including competitions related items.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should...

  • have a Bachelor’s degree preferably with a concentration in Business, Sports Management, or related field; or equivalent experience required
  • be self-motivated and thrive under pressure in a fast-paced work environment while exercising organizational, analytical and time management skills
  • have strong interpersonal skills that complement a proactive, solution-driven, team-oriented work ethic
  • have a keen ability to foster relationships with a wide variety of individuals from entry-level to C-level executives
  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus
  • valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to commute to assigned offices, temporary offices, and off-site locations
  • be highly proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint), project management software and planning tools
  • be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
