Position Overview

The Director, Clinical Placement Office in the School of Nursing, reporting to the Dean provides strategic leadership for the Clinical Placement Office (CPO) within the Cummings School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The CPO is responsible for securing, coordinating, and maintaining all clinical and internship placements across nursing programs. The Director oversees the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing development of clinical faculty to ensure excellence in clinical instruction and full alignment with programmatic, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

As a key member of the School of Nursing leadership team, the Director serves on institutional and program committees as appointed and collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders. The role also represents the Clinical Placement Office in public-facing School of Nursing activities, delivering clinical education information to diverse constituent groups and supporting the School’s mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Comprehensive Management and Quality Assurance of Clinical and Internship Placements (50%)

  • Oversees all operations of the Clinical Placement Office, including the placement, coordination, and oversight of undergraduate and graduate students in clinical and internship settings.
  • Develops and sustains strong, collaborative relationships with clinical coordinators, clinical practice partners, and didactic course faculty to support effective clinical education delivery.
  • Supports clinical faculty through regular, proactive communication, ensuring they remain engaged, informed, and connected throughout the clinical placement process.
  • Ensures the quality and effectiveness of clinical placements through ongoing faculty communication and systematic review of student feedback to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, and faculty to ensure clinical sites are sufficient in number and aligned with course objectives and required skill acquisition for corresponding didactic coursework.
  • Coordinates and registers students for clinical placements each semester in accordance with faculty-established guidelines related to placement location, variety, and program requirements.
  • Manages personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for clinical facilities each semester, including N95 fit testing and compliance coordination.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and waivers for unique clinical situations (e.g., vaccination exemptions, COVID testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements), and orients students and faculty to policy updates each semester through the Student Canvas Information Page and other communication channels.
  • Supervises and supports Clinical and Internship Coordinators in fulfilling role responsibilities, including the maintenance of student records, adjunct clinical faculty records, and clinical agency contracts.

Effective Recruitment, Development, and Compliance Oversight of Clinical Adjunct Faculty (40%)

  • Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, management, and evaluation of adjunct clinical faculty, serving as the primary liaison among clinical sites, adjunct faculty, and the School of Nursing.
  • In collaboration with the Dean, recruit and interview adjunct clinical faculty to ensure high-quality, consistent delivery of the curriculum in clinical settings; match faculty credentials and expertise to appropriate clinical assignments.
