Salary: Range $4,695 to $8,304 monthly – commensurate with experience

Overview:
Responsible for extensive original cataloging of various formats; catalogs from pre-catalogued sources a variety of materials ensuring the bibliographic record conforms to pertinent policies and rules; editing of bibliographic resources for materials; organizing and completing various database clean-up projects; authority control verification for collection materials; participation in continuing education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to a master's degree in library science, preferably from an institution accredited by the American Library Association, and one year of professional library experience involving the application of library science techniques, or completion of approved training such as could be gained as a Library Intern.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in a systematic cataloging and copy cataloging of the various collections of the State Library to make items available through I-Share, a shared online database of library materials and the OCLC database. Activities include extensive original cataloging of various formats of materials; copy cataloging new materials in various formats; editing of bibliographic records for materials; authority control verification; searching online databases for appropriate bibliographic information; retrieval of materials from various locations; and other related tasks utilizing knowledge of nationally accepted cataloging and classification schemes and use of the OCLC cataloging service.
- Assists with one or more of the following areas as assigned:
- Serve as back-up ILS Administrator
- Manage Electronic Resources including activation, link resolver, and OpenAthens proxy
- Work with other staff on the evaluation and selection of materials for the Illinois State Library’s collection
- Assist patrons at the Reference Desk and/or Circulation desk as needed.
- Organizes and completes various database clean-up projects to enhance.
- Participates in continuing education for cataloging professionals; attends meetings, conferences, seminars and webinars to enhance professional library skills.
- Reviews and recommends updates to written procedures for cataloging.
- Performs other duties assigned.

- Requires extensive knowledge of acquisition, classification, cataloguing and indexing principles, methods and techniques.
- Requires ability to adapt library science theory to a variety of subjects.
- Requires ability to determine and satisfy the requirements of scholars, government representatives, professional staff, historians, authors and other library patrons.
- Requires ability to instruct new or inexperienced employees in methods, techniques and procedures utilized.
- Requires ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Requires ability to effectively use library tools.
- Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
