Accounts Payable Manager

Location: Massillon, Ohio 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, Tuesday - Thursday, work onsite 

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accounts Payable Manager to join our Corporate Accounting Team. The position will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily activities of the accounts payable function for multiple manufacturing and distribution locations plus headquarters. This cross-functional role is an integral part of the finance organization, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors while maintaining strong internal controls. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounts payable function, including invoice vouching and payment processing, and supporting initiatives to redefine our systems and processes.

General Requirements:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable function, including vendor setup, inquiries, and issue resolution; accrual management; invoice processing; payments review, approval, and processing; non-vendor purchases such as travel and expense reports and credit card administration; and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead the accounts payable team including the accounts payable supervisor and accounts payable specialists, providing guidance, training, coaching, and support as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze accounts payable metrics and KPIs to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage the monthly close process for accounts payable, including reviewing the aging and accrual for accuracy and completeness, reconciling the sub-ledger to the general ledger, and investigating and resolving issues and discrepancies.
  • Partner with third-party service providers and cross-functional teams, such as general ledger accounting, finance, procurement, treasury, and our information technology team, to evaluate and improve processes and systems, increase overall accuracy and efficiency, and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with existing accounting policies (including vendor management and cash disbursements) and develop and implement new policies and procedures, as needed, to eliminate or reduce control risks.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and assistance as needed.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading high-performing Accounts Payable team(s)
  • Professional certification such as Certified Accounts Payable Associate (CAPA) or Certified Accounts Payable Professional (CAPP) is a plus
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, with experience implementing and optimizing accounts payable automation tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices (U.S. GAAP)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements
  • Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights and recommendations
  • Understanding of risk management
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
