Job Description:

The Undergraduate Library Advisor position provides an opportunity for an undergraduate student leader to represent, promote, and support the UF Smathers Libraries. In this position, the Undergraduate Library Advisor will learn more about the libraries while working with library faculty and staff on projects and initiatives designed to support UF students. The Undergraduate Library Advisor will participate in on-campus activities beginning in Fall 2026. 

As part of this role, the Undergraduate Library Advisor will participate in training sessions with librarians on library services, information literacy, outreach, and marketing strategies. The ULA will meet regularly with program coordinators for guidance, reflection, feedback, and professional development. The ULA will also undertake an individual project to develop a new promotional, instructional, or student-focused resource for UF students, with particular emphasis on supporting outreach and engagement with first-time and first-generation college students. 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Represent the UF Smathers Libraries at campus events, SGA meetings, tabling events, and other outreach activities to connect with undergraduate students and promote library services. 

  • Plan and host monthly student engagement activities and recommend innovative programs, events, and outreach opportunities. 

  • Create student-focused marketing and promotional materials, including flyers, social media content, and other resources. 

  • Participate in library assessment and research activities, including the MISO Survey and informal student-centered assessment, to gather feedback and help inform library services and programs. 

  • Serve as a liaison between undergraduate students and library faculty and staff by sharing student perspectives, needs, and concerns. 

  • Support special library projects and initiatives, including displays, exhibits, newsletters, videos, online resources, research, and collaborative projects with campus partners.

We are excited for participants to bring their own perspectives and experiences as UF students into the libraries’ conversation about our services, spaces, and teaching.

Hours: 10hours/week with a flexible schedule

Length of Employment: The position starts in Fall 2026 with a commitment required for the full term. Students may be eligible to work for up to two full semesters, with preference given to those available through Spring 2027. Applicants must be undergraduate students who will have second-year or higher standing by the start date. Current Smathers Libraries student employees are welcome and encouraged to apply and do not need to be new to the libraries to be considered for the position. After completing a full year, exceptional performers may be invited to extend their role for an additional semester to help onboard a new cohort of peers. 

Equipment Provided for Employment: iPad, other tech as needed. 

Expected Salary:

$15.75/hr

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be an undergraduate student and have second-year or higher standing by the start date. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently 

  • Must be an undergraduate student and have second-year or higher standing by start date 

  • Able to be friendly and approachable 

  • Able to be punctual, reliable, and flexible and work ten hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend events. 

  • Capable of working independently once trained and self-motivated 

  • Moderate computer and web searching skills 

  • Comfortable with public speaking and serving as on-camera talent for video projects 

  • Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of social media platforms, graphic design, and content creation.
