Job Summary
Join a talented group of more than 75 dietitians at the University of Virginia Health System in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia. At this level one trauma center, dietitians play an integral role on multidisciplinary teams in many specialty areas, both in the 675 bed inpatient setting, as well as in over 35 outpatient clinics. RDs participate in research and quality improvement projects, host dietetic interns, and are supported in pursuing leadership and community service experiences. Continuing education opportunities are plentiful from within the accomplished nutrition team and from the health system which values ongoing training and education.
This 40 hr/wk position will cover our HIV clinic and provide outpatient nutrition counseling at our Zion’s Crossroads location. The HIV role is primarily grant funded through our Ryan White Clinic that cares for people living with HIV. In the HIV position, the RD will work closely with an interdisciplinary team in a full service clinic to meet the needs of patients with HIV, who experience a wide variety of nutrition concerns. The RD will collaborate with physicians, social workers, pharmacists, and case managers to take care of patients, develop educational initiatives, and create and contribute to quality improvement projects. The RD will also organize and host quarterly cooking demonstrations, run the Ensure program, assist with distributing produce from the community garden, and provide written materials highlighting season produce. At our Zion’s Crossroads nutrition clinic, the RD will be responsible for providing 1:1 nutrition counseling for patients with a variety of nutrition concerns, including weight management, diabetes, PCOS, and HLD. We are seeking an empathetic candidate with strong motivational interviewing and communication skills who can meet patients where they are at. Ideal candidate is open minded, flexible, comfortable working independently, and has a passion for community nutrition. Prior experience with cooking demonstrations and an interest in food insecurity is a plus. Up to 1.5 days per week may be remote for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides medical nutrition therapy including nutrition assessment, diet modification, nutrition education, and intervention for the patient population
- Follows all guidelines as outlined within the Company Diet Manual and the Clinical Nutrition Policies & Procedures Manual
- Complies with all regulatory standards to include federal, state, and accrediting agencies while adhering to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies
- Trains and mentors patient services staff and interns as applicable
- Participates in patient satisfaction programs, departmental meetings, and facility wide Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement programs
Qualifications:
- Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Licensed by the State Dietetics Licensing/Credentialing Board, in states where required
- One (1) year of hospital experience, preferred
