Job Description
SUMMARY:
The assistant director maximizes career opportunities for Spiders through career education and alumni connections. In career education, the assistant director delivers 1:1 advising and group programming for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni. To build connections, the assistant director cultivates working relationships with alumni who participate in educational programming, offers guidance to current students, and posts job and internship opportunities. By supporting constituents from different schools at different stages of their careers, the assistant director will help create synergies that enhance career development across the University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of career development and student development theories, research and practices, and recruiting trends. Prefer knowledge of relationship building with a variety of constituents, including but not limited to employer recruiters, alumni development prospects, parents, faculty & staff. Other skills and abilities that are integral to this position are as follows:
Ability to advise students, alumni and organizations
Extensive career management experience, including working with adult learners and those in career transition
Excellent written and verbal communication
Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents
Supervision and leadership skills
Outcomes assessment, learning outcomes and evaluation strategies
Outstanding teamwork abilities
Innovation and creativity in program development, processes, relationship development and other functions of the position
Development of metrics and methods for continuous improvement of processes, goals, and strategies
Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills
MBTI certification preferred
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in education, counseling, business, higher education administration, human resources, or related field.
At least two years of professional experience in career development, graduate school advising, workforce development, human resources, or the equivalent. Skilled presenter with excellent writing and editing skills. Demonstrated strength in fostering inclusion and belonging. Must combine rich understanding of liberal arts with special appreciation for experienced professionals, adult learners, and graduate students.
WORK HOURS:
Full-time; Exempt position
Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; 7.75 hrs. day; 38.75 hrs. week
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $47,154.00 to $70,148.00 annually)
