Job Summary
The Market Intelligence team at Acuity Brands is responsible for developing a data-driven understanding of market conditions to guide business decision making and long-term strategy for the overall organization.
The Market Intelligence Manager will focus on developing and updating market data and translating that data into business insights. This position will use technical skillsets to structure data collection and cleaning in a repeatable and efficient manner. It will also use analytical skills to derive insights from those datasets and use communication skills to clearly communicate those insights across the organization, including sales, product management, finance, and Acuity’s leadership teams.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Analyze and manipulate large quantities of data to assist in building databases for the market intelligence team.
- Develop, test, and implement new models to address strategic questions across multiple organizational functions.
- Use rigorous quantitative analysis to develop insights and forecasts from both internal and external datasets.
- Build dashboards, PowerPoint presentations, and other visualizations to communicate analysis findings clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders.
- Support ad hoc market research projects by using both qualitative and quantitative research to produce a clear perspective of topics such as market size, market structure, and key trends.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Master’s Degree or equivalent required, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, or Analytics/Data Science.
- 5+ years in Data Science, market intelligence, competitive analysis and insights, consulting, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience with statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R) and scripting languages (e.g. Python).
- Technical expertise with quantitative analysis, experimentation, regression, data mining, and the presentation of the data to develop strategies.
- Experience in applying statistical models and methods to data sets to answer business problems.
- Construction, building products, lighting, or related industry experience preferred but not required.
- Experience and proficiency in using statistical analysis to drive decision making.
- Skilled in applying an analytical approach and rigorous methodology to a broad range of imperfect data sources to derive insights.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI, Power Point), presentation, and interpersonal interaction.
- Intermediate Excel skills and experience with a coding language such as R or Python required.
- Ability to communicate analysis to both technical and non-technical audiences and to influence strategic decisions using data.
