Cruise is seeking a Senior Telematics Test Engineer to lead the validation and certification of our on-vehicle Telematics Control Units. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring the core hardware that enables our autonomous vehicles to communicate with the external world, support critical functionality such as fleet management, remote vehicle assistance, and in-vehicle infotainment. You will collaborate and drive discussions with our internal Component Technical Leads, Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Functional Safety, Cybersecurity, Program Management, and Supply Chain teams. You will also be responsible for interfacing with external partners and suppliers to ensure that the hardware meets our functional and performance requirements while maintaining cost and timing targets. This role will report to the manager of our Vehicle Telecom group within the Telematics and Motion Sense team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Partner with Supply Chain Management to ensure our capital test equipment can meet our validation and certification requirements
- Partner with Technical Project Management to track timelines, burn down risks, and seek opportunities in features and timing
- Partner with domestic and international Mobile Network Operators to ensure our systems are compliant with their network requirements.
- Partner with eSIM providers to inform our hardware design and comply with regional deployment schedules
- Collaborate with Telematics Subject Matter Experts, Systems Engineering, and Architecture teams within Cruise and GM to drive the requirements definition, analysis, development and documentation of component technical specifications and validating their integration into the broader functional system requirements, including Design for Test best practices
- Collaborate with Product, Safety, Reliability, Security, and Legal stakeholders to ensure that the product meets all regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Embedded Software, Mechanical Engineering to ensure that the technical implementation fulfills the requirements and drive technical risks and issues to solution
What you must have:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of postgraduate experience with developing telematics, networking, and infotainment hardware
- 5+ years experience bridging the gap between Mechanical, Electrical, and Embedded Software Engineering discipline
- 5+ years experience working with and managing relationships with domestic and international manufacturers in CM, ODM, and JDM models.
- Automotive experience with ISO26262, AEC-Q100/200, and associated EMC and Environmental compliance
- Experience with SIM and eSIM requirements, sourcing, and development
- Design and certification experience with wireless communication standards and chipsets; LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, WiGig, V2X, VoIP/VoLTE, and GNSS
Excellent project management and supply chain management skills and tool experience
Bonus Points!
- Experience with developing telematics solutions with automotive tier 1 suppliers
- Familiarity with eCall, ERA-GLONASS, GM OnStar, or Ford Sync emergency services
The salary range for this position is $139,000 - $204,300. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
