ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the Division of Viral Diseases (DVD), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), CDC located at 4770 Buford Highway, Chamblee, GA, to provide services to fulfill the mission of the Viral Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch (VVPDB).
SCOPE OF WORK
The Laboratory Data Manager/Epidemiologist will identify and establish a sustainable data platform for research studies on maternal vaccination and other interventions related to DBD pathogens.
Tasks:
Phase 1:
1. Complete a landscape analysis of existing research and surveillance networks and other platforms (within and outside CDC). This includes compiling an inventory of available networks and evaluating suitability for maternal Tdap and GBS vaccine studies. Key characteristics for evaluation include:
- System attributes (e.g., feasibility, sustainability, interoperability, timeliness, data access policies)
- Cost
- Available sample size (due to the rarity of outcomes)
- Available data including from pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum periods
- Data quality (i.e., completeness of key variables, including immunization information systems and laboratory data)
- Ability to:
i. link maternal and infant health records and extract unstructured data using standardized and automated methods;
ii. represent different healthcare settings (e.g., outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, emergency departments, hospitals);
iii. include a diversity of populations;
iv. enumerate cohorts for longitudinal analyses and;
v. include data on social determinants of health to evaluate health disparities.
Phase 2:
1. Select one or more existing networks based on the evaluation criteria (outlined above) and develop and implement the methods needed to create cohorts for pilot studies
2. Conduct pilot studies:
- Conduct a maternal Tdap VE study to answer one or more specific VE questions, including maternal Tdap VE on laboratory-confirmed disease and hospitalization in infants <1 year of age among 1) women who were primed with acellular pertussis vaccines, 2) women who received Tdap vaccine during the second trimester of pregnancy, 3) women who received concomitant (i.e., influenza, COVID, and RSV) vaccines during pregnancy, and 4) women whose infants are born preterm.
- Conduct a pilot GBS study to inform the design of future GBS VE studies within the platform by 1) assessing the capture and sample size of infant GBS outcomes in the platform, and 2) assessing the availability of and measuring key covariates, such as maternal GBS colonization status, preterm delivery, and maternal and infant demographic and health information.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, or other advanced degree, in epidemiology or related public health field, experience conducting research studies and systematic evaluations.
Desirable:
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication
Language Skills:
- The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
REQUIREMENT: Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
