About the role

Are you interested in building large-scale distributed cloud services for the Oracle cloud?


Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure team is building a new service to provide a highly scalable and low latency key-value store for data plane workloads. We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. If you like working on replication, consensus algorithms or database storage engines, this is the right role for you. These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast, still at an early stage. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact.


Our consulting member of technical staffs are senior engineers who are very deep into the technology, in this role, you will work with a team of software engineers responsible for the software architecture and development of major components. You should be comfortable with low level operating systems development, be able to architect broad systems interactions, while being very hands-on, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and higher level system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.


Our consulting member of technical staffs are also the people who can work independently and provide technical leadership to the organization. You should have experience developing and operating high-scale services, and understanding of how to make these cloud-scale services resilient. The ideal candidate will be technically strong and productive; someone who knows how to balance speed and quality with iterative and incremental improvements. You understand operational excellence and know how to infuse a culture of being proactive within your team. You recommend and justify major changes to existing products and establish consensus with data-driven approaches.

About you

  • You work backward, starting from the user. You care about creating usable, useful software that solves real problems and brings delight to users.
  • You have solid communication skills. You can clearly explain complex technical concepts.
  • You work well with non-engineers. You can lead a conversation in a room with designers, engineers, and product managers.
  • Experience driving architecture. You have a strong sense of ownership, and are able to drive development of new projects and features to completion.
  • You are comfortable working at all levels of the stack.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience shipping services software
  • Experience in C++ or Rust. 
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. 
  • Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage and distributed persistence technologies.
  • Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Computer Science
  • Experience in a start-up environment or building services from scratch.
  • Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
  • Strong grasp of Unix-like operating systems
  • Hands-on experience developing cloud services on Oracle Cloud/AWS/GCP/Azure

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
