Director, Center for Community Health Integration

The School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites applications and nominations from the pool of CWRU faculty (an internal search) for the position of Director of the Center for Community Health Integration. The Center has department equivalent status within the School’s Division of General Medical Science with budget and primary faculty status authority. The Center has a long-standing history of success, and the institution seeks an outstanding leader from within the university who demonstrates a focus and vision necessary for developing and strengthening innovative research community engagement and education programs that promotes the mission of the Center. The mission of the Center is to advance relationships, action, and scientific understanding of the systems underlying health and health equity.  The Center extends its impact through collaborative interactions across the school, and with Cleveland-based hospital partners, and community-based programs and health departments. It also participates in the emerging CWRU Institute for Population and Community Health. The center’s research strengths include studies of community-based health barriers, social determinants of health, population-based epidemiology, systems approaches to community health challenges and interventions that mitigate community health risks.

The unified campus at CWRU encourages and facilitates collaborative interactions among social and medical scientists in the School of Medicine including Biomedical Engineering, Engineering, Nursing, Dentistry, and Arts and Sciences. Centers of excellence include the NCI designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Clinical Translational Science Collaborative. 

The new center director will be expected to lead the center’s interactive research and teaching programs and to draw on diverse community and city-wide resources and opportunities to catalyze new enterprises developing observational insight into community health and intervention strategies to improve health. Collaborations with public health, community groups, education programs and partnering with other CWRU centers and Institutes will yield a rich opportunity for substantial advances in community health.

Applicants for this position must have a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. degree with a distinguished record of scientific achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, financial management skills, and a commitment to the education and mentorship of both students and faculty. Appointment as a Professor with tenure is anticipated and requires evidence of a productive and excellent research program recognized at the national/international level. The capacity for imaginative programming and a vigorous collaborative spirit are also essential characteristics.
