Job Description

As an Applied ML Engineer at Shopify, your primary responsibility is to build, maintain and constantly improve ML-powered solutions to drive better outcomes for Shopify users. In Shop specifically, we solve to create more value for buyers and merchants. 

In this role, you'll be joining a team that operates on low process and high trust. We prioritize getting shit done, shipping fast, and constantly learning. This role is focused on building the next generation of discovery and personalization algorithms, incorporating and evolving the state of the art techniques. You will also create the architecture for bigger projects and mentor senior ML and backend engineers to take on the challenge of building and coding your architecture into existence

Qualifications

• Professional experience in a data science or engineering role applying ML to solve business problems
• Experience designing ML-based systems 
• Experience building data pipelines and driving ETL design decisions
• Experience building and deploying ML models to production
• Experience with ML operations to monitor and maintain models in production
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders 

It would be great if you have:

• Specialized experience building personalization and recommender systems
• Experience tech leading and/or mentoring junior data scientists and ML engineers
• Previous experience using Spark and Airflow
• Demonstrated examples of moving the state of the art on ML algorithms in applied contexts (solve a clear product problem and then publish/patent)
