Position Summary
The Data Architect’s overarching role is translating business requirements into technology requirements. You will define data standards and principles which developers will use to implement product features. You must have knowledge of complex data processing and analytics data pipelines and will design pipeline solutions by applying big data strategies and architectures. You must demonstrate an understanding of dimensional data modeling, data integration, data transformation, data cleansing, and data warehousing. The Data Architect must be able to demonstrate innovative approaches to complex problems which deliver industry-leading experiences for business stakeholders. You must also be able to effectively communicate design strategies and approaches to a team of engineers, and ensure the implementation meets overall system requirements. We are looking for those with a strong computer science foundation and the ability to quickly get up to speed with technologies they may not be familiar with. The ability to learn and grow quickly is a must.Qualifications
Responsibilities/essentials duties include:
- Apply dimensional data modeling principles to design a data architecture framework for a large multi-tenant application with intent to address a variety of use cases.
- Collaborate with Global Products Data Architects to visualize and design the framework using Global Products architecture standards. This framework describes the process of planning, specifying, creating, acquiring, maintaining, using, retrieving, archiving, controlling, and purging data.
- Work with the Product Owner and Subject Matter Experts to develop a standard business vocabulary.
- Translate business and strategic requirements into high-level integrated technical designs, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data lake/warehouses.
- Define the reference architecture patterns that a team of data engineers can follow.
- Create and maintain framework documentation, including design strategy, flow diagrams, and data processes.
- Educate and lead a team of data engineers and visualization specialists to implement the framework according to the high-level technical design.
- Collaborate and coordinate with vendors and stakeholders across departments to comprehensively understand system requirements and develop architecture strategies. Stakeholders include, but are not limited to, Huron IT, the Data Governance Committee, Client Services, Product Management, Engineering, and others.
Required:
- U.S. work authorization is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Science/Technology-based related discipline or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years of industry experience as a professional software developer building multi-tier, scalable, enterprise level products.
- Motivated, self-starter with ability to learn quickly, make informed decisions, and provide direction to a team
- Must be a hands-on individual who is comfortable interfacing frequently with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate those needs to technical engineers
- Display sound problem-solving abilities in the face of challenges, with the ability to look at the “big picture” when designing solutions
- Knowledge of and ability to apply dimensional modeling principles to new business processes
- Deep understanding of Data Lake/Lakehouse principles and technologies (Athena/Presto/Hive/Glue Catalog)
- SQL, python skills
- Strong computer science fundamentals
Preferred:
- Infrastructure-as-code exposure is a benefit (CloudFormation/Terraform).
- Knowledge of data vault modeling is prefer
