Directs team, facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and fosters effective communication. Navigates complex patients to include scheduling with multiple services or coordination with outside facilities and/or providers. Leads and provides guidance to staff members and peers..
Department SummaryOur department includes a wealth of dedicated diagnostic and interventional radiologists as well as imaging scientists to diagnose and treat the complex pathology of patients referred to VUMC from central Tennessee and several surrounding states.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proficiently performs all Sr. Patient Service Specialist job responsibilities.
- Monitors patient schedule and ensure optimization of resources and workflow; Evaluates team workload, recommends solutions and assigns staff to other tasks as needed.
- Acts as leader, facilitates education for staff on operational standards and routinely provides guidance/coaching to PSS peers.
- Assists in managing team concerns and guides team to resources for resolution.
- Participates in new hire process and manages onboarding for new team members.
- May act as timekeeper for designated area.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
- CUSTOMER SERVICE (Advanced): A continuing focus on the needs and requirements of customers, anticipating their needs, remaining sensitive to customers while performing services for them, responsive to customer needs.
- PATIENT SCHEDULING (Advanced): The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.
- PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (Advanced): The ability to receive and record patient information.
- MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY & DOCUMENTATION (Advanced): The ability to comprehend medical terminology and documentation in an office, or surgical setting.
- APPOINTMENT & PROCEDURAL SCHEDULING (Advanced): The ability to coordinate and schedule diagnostic testing and procedures within various computer systems in the hospital.
