Job Description
The Elkhorn Bioprocess Technology Solutions (BTS) Team (i.e. technical operations) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Associate Director of Engineering, within our company's Manufacturing Division.
This position is responsible for managing a small team within the overall BTS team that supports production troubleshooting and training, vaccine process development and key business and transfer initiatives to ensure Elkhorn manufacturing robustness. The candidate must possess strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and be able to utilize data for decision making. The candidate must also be able to provide guidance around product impact from technical or compliance deviations with minimal supervision.
The individual must embrace and be committed to establishing an empowered team culture, with the goal of each employee reaching their fullest potential and having accountability, authority and responsibility to one another, and the community. Enthusiasm for continuously learning and imparting that knowledge on others is a requirement. The role will report to the Director of BTS and initially will be expected to manage 2-4 employees, with the potential to expand pending demonstrated performance.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead production investigations as necessary, support daily technical activities within production and implement process improvements.
Respond and drive timely solutions and change to the production or BTS environment as requested.
Understand and demonstrate process development capabilities within the BTS development lab.
Collaborate with other departments, such as Quality, Environmental Health and Safety, Technical Support, Planning, and Maintenance to ensure alignment of goals.
Manage a small team of employees to achieve the goals laid out by the BTS director, site lead, site leadership team and executive leadership team.
Create an open culture of learning, acceptance, and respect within their immediate team and their peers.
Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years laboratory or related vaccine production experience in an FDA or USDA-regulated setting.
Required Experience and Skills:
Possess strong problem-solving skills and able to examine an issue from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, automation, equipment, process, and people) in order to best understand and resolve it at root cause.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Prior experience supporting an FDA or USDA-regulated manufacturing environment.
Prior experience with vaccine or large molecule process development.
Lean and six sigma skills.
Statistical math skills using Minitab.
Job safety related experience.
Advanced degree in a related field
People management experience preferred
