Position Summary: NEA seeks a Manager of Teacher Quality (TQ) with a strategic focus on professional organizing and member engagement in the TQ Department within the Center for Professional Excellence and Student Learning (CPE). The TQ Manager must be able to support a team and multiple outward-facing professional support programs and resources that improve the professional quality of teachers in a highly complex, dynamic environment. The position supports the TQ Department’s commitment to supporting quality teaching as a critical factor impacting student learning and success, and helping teachers achieve and maintain high standards of practice at every phase of their careers. A successful candidate brings a demonstrated commitment to professional quality and learning, a deep understanding of and experience implementing successful organizing strategies, an understanding of NEA’s state and local affiliate and governance structures, and can build and maintain collaborative relationships with NEA staff, members, and leaders across the NEA enterprise. This position reports to the Director of Teacher Quality. 

This is a DC-based position with NEA's headquarters building serving as the central workplace.  Individuals who are hired for certain positions may request approval for telework in accordance with the policies and guidelines for the staff unit to which the position is assigned.  Approval must be authorized by the respective manager and the NEA Executive Director, if required.  For additional information, please contact NEA Human Resources. 

Key Responsibilities: 

The Manager of TQ Professional Organizing and Member Engagement and the staff team they lead ensure that the face-to-face programs and resources, and conferences offered by the TQ Department:

• Promote and enhance teacher quality through equitable practices and the leadership and content expertise of practitioners to ensure student success.
• Ensure that TQ offerings and programs are high-quality, relevant, and responsive to teachers' and students' current needs.
• Provide opportunities to strengthen member-to-member, member-to-affiliate, and member-to-Association connections.
• Provide organizing and leadership development opportunities grounded in professional excellence and quality teaching.   

Additional Responsibilities include:

• Supporting NEA’s Aspiring Educator program and Aspiring Educator conference.
• Supporting the NEA-Retired conference.
• Developing new professional learning products and resources that enhance local and state affiliate capacity to serve the professional needs of members.
• Providing access to information on effective pedagogical practices, promising programs, and teacher quality support systems.
• Implementing effective project management strategies, ensuring strong stewardship of members’ dues, and meaningful outcomes of TQ programs and member engagements.
• Acting strategically in rapidly changing internal and external environments and advising staff and elected leaders on opportunities and challenges related to professional excellence.
• Supporting the management of the TQ Department’s budget and operations in a fiscally responsible manner in adherence to relevant organizational policies and procedures.
• Supervising assigned professional staff.
