Bradley University seeks a dynamic, creative, and technically savvy individual for the Academic Support Specialist position within the Learning Design and Technology division of Information Technology (IT).  The Academic Support Specialist provides training and support in the use of classroom technology, conducts inventory management, and assists with academic video production.  The Academic Support Specialist installs, maintains, and repairs AV equipment in classroom, event, and meeting spaces.  This individual also supervises and trains student staff.   This person works collaboratively with the staff of Learning Design and Technology to support the daily operations and goals of the unit and the strategic initiatives of the University.  

Position Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Classroom Support, Installation, and Maintenance – The Academic Support Specialist provides direct support for faculty, students, and administrative staff in their use of classroom technology.  This person maintains campus mediated spaces and ensures proper operation and condition of equipment and related accessories.  This includes installing/replacing classroom technology equipment and systems, performing preventative maintenance, and doing minor repairs.  The Academic Support Specialist also responds to and troubleshoots technology problems in campus classrooms/meeting spaces.  
  2. Hiring, Scheduling, Training, and Supervision of Student Employees – This individual provides training and scheduling of student staff and will oversee the quality and timeliness of student work.  The Academic Support Specialist also provides technology training to faculty, staff, and students.  
  3. AV Inventory Management – The Academic Support Specialist conducts all facets of equipment inventory management and appropriate record keeping including drafting inventory reports and creating maintenance schedules.
  4. Live Event Support and Video Production – The Academic Support Specialist operates equipment in support of live events and assist with video production.
  5. Work collaboratively with other Bradley IT staff to implement services and systems for campus and participate on project teams, committees, and attend meetings as necessary

Work Schedule

This individual typically works 8:00 – 5:00, however, there will be times when support of events, productions, repairs, or upgrades take place outside of traditional business hours and this person will need to work outside of normal hours.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of audiovisual experience.
  • Demonstrated relevant knowledge and technical experience in Audiovisual technology. 
  • Proficient in providing training or developing skills of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce effective training documentation. 
  • Experience in video production, non-linear editing and rich media file conversion. 
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to effectively troubleshoot and diagnose technology related issues. 
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, self-direction, and self-motivation. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant instructional/information technology, broadcast, or multimedia field. 
  • CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification.
  • Q-SYS, Crestron or related programming and installation experience.
  • Experience with Apple, Windows, and tablet devices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps.
  • Ability to obtain a minimum of 20/20 vision through the use of natural or corrective lenses.
  • Able to identify shades of color.
  • Able to distinguish between varying levels of sound.
