Materials Lab Technician, Body Structures
The Role:
· Collaborate with Lucid Engineers, internal and external resources to order, install, operate, and maintain various pieces of test equipment and machinery.
· Proactively track laboratory inventory, order consumables, calibrate equipment, and ship/receive test specimen.
· Assist engineers and/or interns with their test programs (including, but not limited to torque-tension tests, mechanical tests, metallurgical evaluation, etc.).
· Prepare samples for metallographic examination under optical microscope.
· Complies with all environmentally safe practices and regulations. All labeling and storage requirements for chemicals.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 3 years of automotive (or related) technician experience
· A “can-do” attitude and ability to regularly lift more than 50 lbs., if needed.
· Detail oriented personality with strong documentation and reporting skills including Microsoft office and Jira/Confluence.
· Knowledge of power tools, pneumatic equipment, and machine shop tools: band saws, grinders, mill and lathe, shear press.
· Awareness of electrical hazards, including precautionary measures around high voltage equipment and rotating machinery.
Preferred:
· Experience with electric vehicles and/or automotive products a plus.
· Experience cross sectioning, mounting, polishing, and inspecting metallurgical samples via optical, digital or electronic microscope.
· Experience preparing and testing structural adhesive bonded joints.
· Experience with oven and furnace heat treatment, mechanical testing (tensile, compressive, 3-point and 4-point flexural testing), salt spray test chamber, metallurgical saws/polishers, self-pierce riveting, and flow form screwing.
· Great communication skills for relaying data (both verbal and written).
· Impeccable organization and clean work environment habits.
Education:
· High School Diploma
· ASE certification a bonus
· Other technical or vocational schools or certification with automotive focus a bonus
