The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) manages Deployed Services safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.). This role is responsible for monitoring, implementing, developing, and enforcing policies to reduce risks and ensure a safe and healthy workplace. This position is also accountable for leading and directing cross-functional teams developing their department leaders by mentoring, coaching, and delivering performance feedback relevant to the organization’s business objectives to establish a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.  

 Essential Functions:

  • Responsible and accountable for the overall leadership and direction of the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, and policies at a corporate level for the company
  • Develop and implement all inspection policies and procedures and ensure that required routing inspections are completed
  • Develop and implement corporate EHS training and quality assurance support to operational locations throughout the company
  • Establish proactive safety prevention strategies and tracking mechanisms to identify and mitigate potential risks to the health and safety of all parties present on DS job sites
  • Proactively create education topics and loss control strategies based on data analysis and emerging trends
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure proper implementation of safety prevention strategies related to workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics
  • Review compliance standards against safety procedures and adjust when necessary
  • Ensure that detailed records of environmental and safety incidents, inspections and audit findings, and corrective actions are appropriately documented
  • Ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed
  • Maintain records of employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required
  • Work closely with the DS Director of Risk Management to investigate and resolve OSHA complaints/violations
  • Provide career development and mentoring support to the EHS workforce
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and policies at the Federal and State level
  • Ability to make on-the-spot decisions regarding safety practices and system operational functions
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness and crisis management
  • Intermediate level or above in MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency in safety and environmental software systems
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English  
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a 24/7/365 business environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental safety, Occupational Safety, and Health-related experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Ten plus years’ experience in environmental health and a minimum of five years in a leadership role
  • Five years’ EHS Tech experience preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional- BCSP, Certified Instructional Trainer- BCSP is a plus
  • Experience conducting/participating in fire inspections is desirable
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
  • Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check after accepting a conditional offer of employment
