Senior Mechanical Designer

Dephy is looking for a candidate who was born to be a Designer: someone who has an urge to understand how things work, someone who gets excited when there is no known solution to the problem at hand. Dephy is a robotics design firm founded in 2016 with the primary mission of bringing humans Beyond Nature™ with performance enhancing wearable robotics technologies. We utilize a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving. We are active in the military, medical, and consumer markets.

Description of Role

The candidate’s main responsibility will be to design parts, components, and assemblies for a lightweight wearable robot. The candidate will analyze the current design and plan iterative design cycles to improve system efficiency, reduce weight (material selection, new design approaches,  and optimization of current parts), improve environmental protection, and improve manufacturability. Other projects will include aiding in the design of automated testing equipment, designing fixtures to simplify assembly, and participating in the design of future products, etc.

Requirements

Required Qualifications 

• Be a good human - get along with the team, build strong working relationships, and execute on Dephy’s Values.
• Proven experience with Solidworks Surfacing and the ability to create complex and organic surfaces with a portfolio to showcase them
• Experience bringing designs to life starting with a sketch or rendering and transitioning designs through manufacturing, including:
• Previous hands-on experience packaging sensors and electronics in electro-mechanical assemblies
• Proficient in creating and maintaining complex part and assembly drawings
• Experience providing design and documentation support for product development and manufacturing
• Ability to build and maintain accurate bills of materials
• Managing Engineering Change Orders as needed
• Self-driven initiative to solve complex problems
• Capability to excel in a cross-disciplinary and collaborative environment
• Willingness and ability to participate in the hands-on building of prototypes
• 5+ years of Solidworks 

Desired Qualifications

• Certified Solidworks Expert or Professional certification
• General understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) methods
• Experience maintaining Solidworks PDM system
• Experience with robotics, wearables,  exoskeletons, active prostheses or other complex electromechanical systems 
• Experience with sourcing manufactured prototypes and parts 
• 7+ years of Solidworks
