Description

Program Description: Students in grades 6-8 will have the special opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a young artist at ChiArts. For five hours a day, students will be immersed in excellent professional training in the conservatory of their choice and perform in the All-Conservatory, Musical Theatre performance on Friday, July 25th.

 

Schedule

July 7-25, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm 

 

Job Summary: 

The Dance Instructor will design and deliver a dance curriculum incorporating Horton Technique, Ballet, African, Jazz and other styles for daily classes to students in grades 6-8. The instructor will also Choreograph the dance numbers and collaborate with the show’s Director and Music Director for a Musical Theatre, All-Conservatory performance on Friday, July 25th. This includes organizing and hosting engaging and fun afternoon activities relating to dance and preparing students for the final show performance. In addition, instructors will serve as role models and mentors for ChiArts student apprentices who are seriously interested in gaining experience in teaching and sharing through the arts.  The camp experience will allow students who are interested in applying to ChiArts to gain some material that they would present at a ChiArts audition.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to working for the entire 3 weeks of camp, July 7-25, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm as well as an info meeting before camp
  • Experience in middle school curriculum development preferred
  • Experience teaching a variety of dance styles
  • Required to submit a curriculum map ahead of time 
  • Required to submit a list of requested supplies and materials ahead of time
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have outstanding communication skills
  • Organization, leadership and a dedication to working with children is essential
  • Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission 
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Must attend an info meeting (dates TBD) and (tentatively) a PD on working with middle schoolers prior to the start of camp
