Job Description

The Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech is recruiting a clinical child psychologist for a non-tenure-track clinical faculty position within our clinical science Ph.D. training program. Our Clinical Science program is nationally recognized (2017 ABCT Outstanding Training Program) and dually accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS).

Primary responsibilities will include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate students (including but not limited to Child Assessment, Practicum Training and Externship Support, Psychological Disorders of Children), supervising doctoral students on therapy cases and child assessment cases, and supporting the overall mission and activities of the Child Study Center and Psychological Services Center, including contributing to program administration, community outreach, and partnerships with area school districts. The service component of this position will be directed toward efforts directly benefiting the clinical missions of the department and the center.

Although research expectations for this position are reduced, there will be opportunities for collaboration with faculty and graduate students affiliated with the Child Study Center and the Department of Psychology, mentoring of undergraduate students on research projects, and utilization of the Child Assessment Clinic database for personal research activities. We seek a colleague with a track record of conducting and supervising child and adolescent therapy and assessment cases.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related field (e.g., School Psychology). Candidates should be licensed as a psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Pre-licensure candidates may be considered with the expectation of obtaining licensure within one year. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in conducting and supervising therapy and assessment cases.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Candidates who can contribute to an overarching department initiative to enhance diversity and our understanding of diversity are particularly encouraged to apply.
