Applicants for this position must be at least 14 years and 11 months old and not older than 17 years and 11 months old and enrolled in school (not at OSU). This position is NOT open to non-students. Successful candidates may not begin their first day of work prior to their 15th birthday and before Work Permit requirements are met. 

 

Lifeguard (LG) 

Position Description 

 
Job Summary: 

 

Lifeguards at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and RPAC Recreation Natatorium are a select group of highly trained rescuers that supervise safety in and around the facility. Enforcing preventative measures, promoting consistency, remaining alert, and recognizing and responding to emergencies are the most important aspects of this position. It is the job of the Lifeguard to guide participants to safe behavior, to intervene when necessary to maintain safety, and to perform required rescues and care. 

 

This position provides the opportunity to develop life and professional skills such as time management, responsibility and attention to detail, adaptability and learning to work under pressure. Staff have the opportunity to work with diverse groups and oversee activities from recreational swimming through national level competitive events. 

 

Requirements: 

• Possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED-PR, and First Aid certification. 

• Complete the new hire evaluation. 

• Pass required skill and water fitness evaluations and audits. 

• Regularly attend and participate in meetings, in-service trainings, and skills checks. 

 

Responsibilities: 

• Responsible for the safety, rescue, and care of all patrons in and around the pool at all times of operation. 

• Ensure facility security, and readiness of safety equipment. 

• Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, including but not limited to governmental and public relations, legal and regulator
