Job Summary:


The Senior Purchasing Generalist plays a pivotal role in the procurement activities of the company managing the procurement process, ensuring the acquisition of materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. This role requires a strategic mindset, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to maintain strong vendor relationships.


Essential Functions:

  • Vendor Qualification and Evaluation: Assess potential vendors, evaluate bids, and qualify suppliers based on quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate prices, contracts, and terms with vendors to secure favorable agreements for purchased goods and services, ensuring cost savings and quality standards are met.
  • Procurement Management: Oversee the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring timely acquisition of goods and services while adhering to organizational policies and budgetary constraints.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, fostering open communication and addressing any issues or concerns promptly to ensure quality and reliability of supplies.
  • Database Management: Maintain a comprehensive database of vendor information, including contracts, pricing agreements, and performance metrics, to facilitate efficient procurement processes and informed decision-making.
  • Quality Control: Monitor vendor performance and product quality, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain high standards.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to lower-level buyers, ensuring their work aligns with organizational goals and standards.
  • Project Management: Plans and oversee special projects ensuring timely achievement of specific goals.

General Functions:

  • Takes responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves results with little oversight.
  • Collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that department goals and deadlines are met on time.
  • Uses technical and experiential knowledge to help support the department’s mission.
  • Keeps relevant and informed of changes in the field of knowledge and experience.
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings to stay informed and follow through on shared responsibilities.
  • Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, sharing knowledge, resources, and experience to achieve goals in a timely fashion, while promoting respect, communication, and teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • Attention to detail: Ability to meticulously review and analyze procurement documents and contracts.
  • Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Dependability: Consistently demonstrates reliability and punctuality in performing job responsibilities.
  • Initiative: Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement and takes appropriate action.
  • Time management skills: Effectively prioritizes tasks and manages time to meet deadlines.
  • Technical aptitude: Proficiency in procurement software and systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Critical thinking: Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex situations and make informed decisions.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in procurement or purchasing roles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Experience in negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Physical dexterity: Ability to perform tasks requiring physical movement, such as walking, reaching, and handling objects.
  • Vision: Visual acuity sufficient to review documents and operate computer systems.
  • Endurance: Capability to work in a fast-paced office environment for extended periods.
  • Exposure to elements: Primarily works in an office setting with minimal exposure to noise levels.
