THE DEPARTMENT:
Under direction of the Assistant Vice President, IRPA serves the university by providing leadership and support for institutional research, strategic planning, business ·intelligence, data visualization and predictive analytics. The office provides action-oriented data that helps decision-makers throughout the university foster student success and institutional effectiveness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Institutional Reporting & Support
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive repertoire of queries, jobs, syntax, and project notes in a secure manner to ensure that cyclical research requests can be completed in a consistent and highly efficient manner. Provide training to other IR analysts to ensure continuity of service in the event of absences or turnover.
- Monitor the accuracy of information released by IR that shapes public understanding of Cal Poly Pomona. Apply knowledge and expertise to improve data quality and integrity. Exhibit a strong understanding of ethical, compliance, privacy and security issues; apply relevant policies and procedures related to access, security, and delivery of data and research.
- Establish and maintain strong professional working relationships with campus academic and administrative offices, departments and programs, to ensure the quality and accuracy of data provided by those offices.
- Support campus academic and administrative offices by fulfilling ad-hoc and cyclical requests for data.
- Support, when needed, cyclical institutional research reporting, including official enrollment census, CSU Chancellor's Office reports, and external requests for official university data (such as the Common Data Set and the US News and World Report survey).
- Support the university's cyclical participation in national surveys of students by identifying intended survey participants, distributing surveys, synthesizing delivered reports, and preparing custom analyses and reports as necessary.
- Support requests for data associated with state and federal grant applications, annual reports, and assessment.
Research, Analysis, and Reporting
- Conduct broad-scale and highly complex institutional research projects and studies related, but not limited to, enrollment, student success, and equitable practices; design research methodologies for a variety of institutional research projects; exercise project responsibility from conceptual design and problem definition/hypothesis development through to data collection, analysis, interpretation and findings.
- Obtain and integrate external data resources as needed. Working with data architects, guide and direct the inclusion of external data into our data warehouse. Analyst will assess the validity of the data and explore data relationships to ensure analyses are representative of the data.
- Utilize advanced research methodologies and higher order statistical analysis techniques to perform analyses using sound, up-to-date research practices.
- Develop and conduct surveys of students, employees, and other constituents to gather quantitative and qualitative information on topics such as satisfaction with services, impact of programs, etc. Analyze quantitative and qualitative results and present them in a clear and concise manner to campus leaders.
- Learn and apply creative ways to communicate data and research in a variety of formats (i.e., written, verbal, visual) to engage various audiences utilizing tools such as Tableau, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Other
- Institutional Research Support - Provide data and analytic support for the university in compliance with accreditation studies at the university level.
- Participate in state and national organizations for professional development.
- When the IR Director is not available, attend campus meetings as an alternate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid CA Driver's license with insurance.
- Four years of progressively responsible administrative, technical, or professional analytical experience which demonstrates ability to conduct substantive surveys and studies of problems and issues in assigned areas.
